Welcome to Neutral Impact's Homepage

Goals: End-game PvE
Timezones: North American (EST, CST, MST, PST)
Server: Hyperion [Legacy]

Mission Statement

Neutral Impact firmly believes the game is not a job. We all have busy personal lives to attend to and that will always take priority over the game.  While our Free Company is not strictly a social group, our social pearl is.  We believe the group and the individual are equal. By extension, we believe members should get the respect they deserve and so transparency is important to us for all things; banks, policies, and planning. Our group believes in always moving forward and as such, all our actions will be focused on reaching the end game and participating in it as best we can, as fast as we can. Lastly, we also believe that the most fair gaming environment is created using custom-tailored rules with a firm foundation of time-tested leadership. Our leadership is experienced and highly structured.  This isn't your run-of-the-mill guild.  We play seriously and also know when to joke around and have a great time.

Our goals will always include defeating all instanced and open world raid content in a quick and productive manner.  We may not be the first, but we will always be in the running.  To accomplish these goals we seek the finest semi-hardcore players available within the Final Fantasy XIV community to bring their talent here and play their hearts out.

Welcome back NI members!  It's been 2 weeks now since the devastating 9.0 earthquake that hit Japan - with Tsunamis, hundreds of billions of dollars in damages, and food/power shortages compounding the problem into a dismal impasse that will affect the country for years to come.  To help contribute with World-wide generosity and prayers for those affected,  Square-Enix decided on March 13th to shut down FFXI and FFXIV servers to conserve power until further notice.  It's been about 14 days now since the disaster, and the shattered country is already demonstrating it's trademark resilience to recovery with hopes that this trend will continue for the country and it's people.

Extremely goofy /welcome emote incoming~

This evening Neutral Impact successfully defeated three unique notorious monsters during the first ever official raiding night!

Our plan of action began with Great Buffalo after we discovered Uraeus was already engaged in battle with another linkshell. After the buffalo we took a trip over to Coerthas ourselves to take out Uraeus and defeated him. Event Leader Black Death then led us on the march to Treespeak where we took down Haughtpox Bloatbelly and his gang of misfit goblins. He was a real pushover; we were expecting much more. We ended the night with our second Uraeus. All in all a solid raid night. We really couldn't ask for more!

Here's our first Uraeus kill!

We obtained no worthy drops, even with all our efforts to incapacitate. That is okay though--we came away with much more than drops could offer us at this stage. As a leader, I look back to the birth of the linkshell in July of last year and am very happy with where the linkshell is now. We entered end game later then we initially planned, but it no longer matters. From these battles, I saw a lot of camaraderie and personalities really shine throughout our fights. I personally could not be happier with what I saw last night and really look forward to the future success of Neutral Impact.

Things are only looking positive for us these days. We've even gotten a few retired members to return to us and they are now working their way to fifty! Stay tuned for more action from us in the coming weeks!

Goblin is sadface :(

As the days past, our linkshell grows stronger. If not by merit of higher ranks, then by the very bonds of friendship. Not only have we been rising in levels so quickly over these past few weeks, but we have also really gotten to know each other and become even better friends.

As Neutral Impact is now part of a larger community, we each see the goals of the linkshell as part of a greater whole. Each member has been doing their utmost to attain max rank while also getting to know each other and scouting Figaro for new recruits as well. Things have really come together and now, as we make the push, to enter Figaro's end game scene (albeit about a month slower than anticipated), we find ourselves in a much better position than in weeks past.

It has been a real challenge to understand the fundamentals of a game that has, literally, no true manual. This has had a great impact on us as players and we have begun gathering a monstrous amount of information in our forum's member sections to help us continue our growth as a whole. Finding information on the Notorious Monsters roaming the land has also proved difficult so we've been testing the waters there to discover the ins and outs of the game first-hand. Luckily, we've been able to bring a lot of experience to the table from previous games as well and that has certainly made things far easier than originally imagined.

Within the next two weeks Neutral Impact will officially be starting end game. We want all to know that we are prepared to compete against our friendly rivals in an environment that has the potential to be fairly competitive. As LS Master, I greatly look forward to meeting a lot of new people as we hit the scene. While I am already familiar with many of the names on the server, I've really yet to place a soul inside that character, and that is something I really want to do. Look for us out there! We will be coming to a region near you :)

This past week Neutral Impact opened up a new leadership position, the Open-World Event Leader, to handle the addition of Final Fantasy XIV's most notorious monsters as linkshell events.

Black Death has been appointed to this position. His application, quoted below, is a great example of the kind of application I expect to be submitted for leadership positions in Neutral Impact. Please give it a thorough read-through to get a better perspective on IGC's first ever event leader!

Character Name: Black Death
Age: 29
Years of MMO Experience: 8
Years as Event (Raid) Leader: 3
Education: Masters in International Security (Economics Focus), Undergraduate in International Political Economics

I wanted to open my application with some of my personal information that may help in making your decision.

As far as filling exactly point for point, what you are looking for, I can fulfill many but not all of its aspects, mainly technical, but the use of these tools is something I feel can easily be learned (hopefully ^^)

The following are common duties of the Event Leader:

* Managing the Raid Plan for their event - Easy enough. I did this in my HNMLS. Usually it was 3 nights a week and off nights were spent camping HNMs. WoW was easy mode as there was a calender in game to use for event planning, posting, and invitations

* Updating the DKP as necessary - I did this crap by hand back in FFXI, it sucked. I wish there was an EZ mode add-on like there was in WoW. If you know of an application that makes this EZ I would definatly use it. Manual entry is a bitch, esp when you have more then 15 people (40 people in Sky/HNM ls)

* Announcing event start times - I have no problem with giving the fair warning that events are starting. I don't like to shove it down peoples throats. It is much easier to coax the willing.

* Making members aware of upcoming events via forums - This would not be a problem. As long as leaders are in communication as to what events want/need to be done, this part would be easy.

* Organizing parties as needed for raids - Been there, done that. This is easy.

* Registering active attendance for events - This goes with DKP and is easy to track if you have an add-on/app.
* Some paperwork/filing/tracking - IBID, see above.

The ideal candidate posses the following skills:

* Good reading/writing skills - I hope that my bajillion dollar education has allowed me to do so.
* Strong speaking skills - I was an exchange student to Japan, and during/after that year my ability to speak to a crowd has escalated greatly.
* Access to TeamSpeak--YOU MUST SPEAK CLEARLY - I hope you guys can hear me clear enough on vent. I can mumble when I get tired or we are doing something monotonous.
* 2-6 hours of forum time per week - I do that now, I just don't post on everything.
* PHPBB3 Forum moderator experience a plus. Never heard of this. This is the technology part I do not know but would be willing to learn as long as I didnt need a class for it.
* EQDKP+ experience is a plus. - I know how it works and I have seen it but never personally used it.

As for selling myself to the spot, I will be honest. I have pros and cons like everyone else. I am human and can make mistakes but I will learn from them which I feel every end-game player should and any quality person in life should.

- I have 2 kids: I must go AFK from time to time to change a daiper, put in a DVD, or do some other fatherly thing. However, when it is my time, I game. My wife knows it and I know it. When I start into our static, she tries to pick up most of the parenting. I however do more then my fair share of the cooking and cleaning so it works out well when I need my free time.

- My schedule is changing for the short term: Starting FEB 1st I will be working 12 hour days, like I had included as extra as part of my application. I will be working 3 days on then have 3 days off, then 4 days on and 4 days off. These shifts will be 7-7 rotating half way through (pm -> am/ am->pm) This will last for 3 months until my position rotates me somewhere else. See below on PRO. However, I am looking long term, as I like to do in my MMO experiences, and I see myself in NI for a long time.

- Experience: I have been there and done that. I would only take a position like this on if the rest of the infrastructure is in place. We have a solid leader in Grey. Recruitment is well thought through my Reli & Ru and I feel like they do a good job. I just wish we had more applications.

- I enjoy it: Raid leading to me is not a job. It is fun and I enjoy keeping the group motivated. I roll with the punches. Even in trying to get a problem player to play better I try to use constructive criticism or try to fit myself into their shoes. As such, I have played all roles in end-game and try to see things from their perspective. I feel that the hardest jobs (traditionally) is that of the healer, so I usually have more leniency in dealing with healers. I have also played a caster and a tank. I have even filled all of these roles in WoW and in FFXI.

- I have both patience/impatience: I am patient with learning new fights and experience. I also like to make sure that newer players get the chance to not only prove themselves but get them a chance to learn. MMOs should be trial by fire. I however dont have patience for those that are letting the team down. If you dont come to gatherings with everything you need from consumables (food, pots, etc), full repairs, or you come late, I get pissy fast. When people don't come prepared it is a slap in the face to those that do. I feel my strongest ability here is to rally the troops after a wipe, and try to get people back and motivated to try things again.

- Dedication: I feel when I joined NI, I was really a low man on the totem pole. I knew though that given the opportunity I would excel and become a better player by playing with better players. Now that I have been accepted into NI, I want to prove myself as a valuable asset and want to do everything in my power to help the community out. That being said, even if I am not offered the position I would like to assist the person that does, as I feel raid/event leading comes natural to me and I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

* Why are you qualified for this position? see above
* What interests you about this position? I want it because I like to lead raid. I feel if I am not doing something that I am not doing much for everyone.
* What kind of goals do you have for NI as a leader? My goal is to optimize our time on. Semi-hardcore (funny as it is) is something I strived for when I led before. I want people to use their time wisely and to not waste everyone's time who is also there. My goal would be to keep things clear and understandable. Having in-fighting over something as simple as DKP is unnecessary. My primary goal though would to try to keep people motivated to come to raid because, above all, I want to keep things fun for everyone. This game is suppose to be fun, but people should also know that end-game MMOs are not for the weak at heart. I like shiny gear and I want my friends to have it too. Nothing l like going around town and having people oogle over your gear.

Thank you for your time and your consideration.

Ben Schnaare aka Black Death

Thank you to those who expressed interest in the position. In the future, more positions will become available and if there are a significant number of applicants, member will vote on who they feel is best for the position.

Thank for your time and congratulations Black Death! You have earned your new forum title!

At our recent community meeting new goals for Neutral Impact were announced. I have decided to look at the linkshell in chunks of three months. This helps members track our goal progress within a realistic timeframe, and also gives SquareEnix a chance to play catch-up with today's MMOG environment. In the future, we may accelerate our schedule, but for the time being, the leadership feels this is the best way to compartmentalize our progress and see what is happening within the linkshell as a whole.

Going forward, the following goals have been set forth by the GM of Neutral Impact:

All members are expected to have at least one Rank 50 class by March 30, 2011. The class can be within any category, and Disciples of War, Magic, and Hand are preferable. Members that are not at least Rank 30 currently should seriously consider their position within our linkshell.

Neutral Impact will increase aggressive on the Recruitment front. We are looking to bring in Disciples of Hand and Land now more than ever. We have the numbers to fill out our battle classes (although Gladiators are high priority right now), and so we feel we can begin to focus a bit more on non-battle-related classes.

That said, we are increasing our soft cap to 40 members. This is currently set at 35 so this is not a big change, however we are open to accepting up to 50 members to cover future raiding times. The goal right in front of us is to bring our 33 member roster up to 40 within the next 2-3 months.

Recruitment is now only accepting applicants level 30 or above. The primary reason for this is to gauge interest in players achieving that rank for end game. There are linkshells popping up all the time, even end game ones, and we feel that now is the time to be a cut above the rest. This rank requirement will increase as the average level of the linkshell also increases (possibly at a rate of +5 ranks every 30 days from now until March).

Development of a DKP system prior to March 1, 2011. This will mark the re-opening of our DKP discussion, but a great system is also already in the works by our GM.

End Game related: As soon as Neutral Impact has 10 members Rank 46+, we will begin to utilize our DKP system and participate in end game. This means all current NM fights in the game at this time. We are actually very close to that number and should be starting all that in a short time (way earlier than March).

There are several other minor goals as well, but these are the important ones we feel everyone should be aware of (even you, the reader who is considering applying!). Members also have a great many personal goals to fulfill as well, such as finishing their first or second class to Rank 50, completing their crafting class, and transitioning to true end game content in the next few weeks. There is still so much happening at NI, even if FFXIV is exactly busting at the seams with activity. Well, we are, and that's all that matters right now. If you are interested in joining a truly focused end game linkshell with a deep history of leadership and experience, then why haven't you sent in an application yet exactly? Here's your chance!  => Click me; you'll regret it if you don't!
